Quickie Apple Crumbles
These are great for those days when you could kinda go for an apple cobbler or something but don’t want to make a whole one (for fear of eating it all or just feeling too lazy to bake).
- 2 Apples
- 3 tbsp of butter
- 1 tsp of cinnamon
- 2 tbsp of sugar
- 1 bag of graham crackers
Step 1: Cut off top of apple and core it out. A spoon works best. Make sure to leave the bottom all together.
Step 2 & 3: Dice up what you cored out minus seeds and hard pieces. Put it in a pan with 1.5 tbsp of butter, 1 tsp of cinnamon, 1 tbsp of sugar. .
Step 4: Saute until soft and caramelized.
Step 5: Crush up that bag of graham crackers. Take out some anger on them.
Step 6: Place cooked apple pieces and sauce in cored out apple. Let sit for a minute.
Step 7: Use remaining butter and sugar to mix with graham crumble. You will need to melt butter.
Step 8: Pack it on top of apples. Pack tight too!
Final: Cook at 350F for about 5 minutes. To get a crispy golden top, broil for a few minutes. Enjoy!
- The original recipe called for 1.5 apples per finished crumble. We have SMALL gala apples right now and its own flesh was more than enough to stuff one apple and leave room for the graham topping. I found doing 1.5 apples resulted in a super stuffed shell and as a result, I had to really work hard to keep the topping from falling off.
- Bake in muffin tin to keep them from rolling around on your cookie sheet and making a mess.
- Eat in a bowl. My first one was attempted on a plate (in my lap no less) it did NOT go well. lol!
- When making the graham cracker topping, I get all the apple bits out of the frying pan, then use that same pan to melt more butter for the topping and just mix it all in the frying pan. That way I get all the juices and yumminess from the apples in the topping.
